Empathy Is the Core AI Engineering Skill

The most important skill for an AI engineer is empathy: understanding what another mind is thinking, assuming, or likely to misinterpret.

It's not that different from reading what another human really thinks or needs. With AI you build a context and orchestrate it so it's able to do the right thing. That requires putting yourself in the model's position and figuring out what it sees, what it's missing, and what will confuse it.
